It includes no-fuss, flat-rate rewards and plenty of options for redeeming what you earn. Cardholders will get 2 miles across the board on every dollar spent, no matter the purchase category. Whether you buy groceries, flights, or pay your electric bill with the card, you’ll earn 2 miles per dollar.
You can start redeeming rewards once you reach 10,000 miles if using them toward travel, or 5,000 if using them for cash back. When redeeming, miles are worth 1 cent toward travel expenses or worth half a cent toward cash back. With this card, you definitely get more bang for your buck if you use the rewards for travel.
One of the biggest perks with the Barclaycard Arrival Plus® World Elite Mastercard® is its generous sign-up bonus offer, just for new cardmembers. When you get approved for the card, you’ll earn 40,000 bonus miles after spending $3,000 within the first 90 days of opening the account. This is enough for a $400 travel credit or $200 statement credit!
Cash back rewards are given in the form of a statement credit or gift card. Travel rewards are given as a statement credit, covering qualifying travel purchases that were made in the previous 120 days.
As mentioned, your rewards will go further if using the miles earned to cover travel expenses. Qualifying travel expenses include things like flights, hotels, rental cars, cruises, taxis, timeshares, and more.
You’ll get a 5% bonus added to your rewards balance every time you redeem cash back. This means that if you redeem 10,000 miles and put it toward a statement credit, Barclaycard will add another 500 miles to your earned balance. You can then use these bonus miles the next time you want to redeem rewards.
The biggest problem you’ll find with the rewards, however, is that you cannot redeem them until you reach at least 5,000 (for cash back) or 10,000 (for travel) miles earned. This can be an issue if you don’t spend much on the card, as it may take you a while to accumulate enough rewards to redeem. Luckily, though, cash rewards don’t expire (as long as your account is open and in good standing), so you can build up earnings until you have enough to cash in.
The Barclaycard Arrival Plus® World Elite Mastercard® offers an introductory 0% APR for 12 months. This makes it easy to pay off other debts faster (and for less money overall), without being charged interest.
There is no introductory APR for purchases, unfortunately. Your interest rate will either be 16.99%, 20.99%, or 23.99%, depending on your creditworthiness. Of course, if you pay off your balance in full each month, you won’t be paying interest anyway.
Your introductory APR for balance transfers is 0% for 12 months, for transfers that occur within the first 45 months of opening your account. After the 12-month introductory balance transfer period (or if transfers are made later than 45 days after account opening), the APR on those balances will either be 16.99%, 20.99%, or 23.99%. This is again based on creditworthiness.
There is also a balance transfer fee of either 3% or $5 per, whichever is greater. The Barclaycard Arrival Plus® World Elite Mastercard® will waive your annual fee for the first year. After that, though, the fee is $89 every 12 months.
Of course, if you spend enough in the first 90 days to earn the sign-up bonus, and if you use the card regularly to earn rewards (taking advantage of the doubled value for travel expenses), this annual fee could still be well worth it. However, you need to evaluate how often you use the card beginning in year two, to ensure that it’s worth the fee. If not, there are other rewards credit cards without an annual fee, which you may be better off carrying. As mentioned, you will pay a balance transfer fee for all debts that you switch over to the account. This fee equates to either 3% of the transferred balance or $5, whichever is greater. With cash advances, the fee is the higher of either 5% or $10. Barclaycard charges fees for late payments (up to $37) and foreign transactions (3%), which can really add up.
If you like to travel and you want to earn cash back rewards miles on every dollar you spend, you need a good travel rewards credit card. Luckily, the Barclaycard Arrival Plus® World Elite Mastercard® gives you just that.
You’ll earn 2 miles on every dollar spent on the card, which can be redeemed for travel expenses (1 cent per mile) or statement credits and gift cards (0.5 cent per mile). Once you accumulate 5,000 (cash back)/10,000 (travel) miles, you can begin redeeming. Plus, you’ll get 5% bonus miles back in your account every time you redeem.
The annual fee may be a deterrent for some, but keep in mind that there’s a generous 40,000-mile bonus for new cardholders, for spending $3,000 in the first 90 days. This equates to a $400 travel credit or $200 statement credit. Plus, your annual fee is waived for the first year. Combine that with earned rewards on your daily spending, and that annual fee may just be worthwhile in the end.
