PRO: Cash rewards program.

CON: No 0% APR.

Best cash back card. You select the categories where you earn 5% cash back rather than having them assigned like most other cash back cards.

Awesome card. I've only had the card for six months, but I'm earning a bunch of rebates with it.

PRO: Cash back

CON: None

I use this card for all of my spending and have been happy with the rewards program. I had the Kroger card before but this is a much better option.

PRO: Cash back program

CON: Complex rewards program.

Credit card rewards are an easy way to earn free money on the things you buy anyway. However, some cards are better than others, offering even more cash back on every dollar you spend.

One great example is the U.S. Bank Cash+™ Visa Signature® Card, which offers up to an industry-leading 5.5% cash back for your entire first year. And for new cardmembers, there’s a $100 bonus offer after you spend $500 in eligible purchases within the first 90 days of owning the card.

You’ll get to choose two spending categories each quarter. In these two categories, your purchases (up to $2,000) will earn 5% cash back, or 5.5% in the first year. This means that for the initial 12 months that you hold the card, you will earn an additional 0.5% cash back – on top of the standard 5% -- on these eligible purchases.

Another great thing about the U.S. Bank Cash+ rewards is that you’re welcome to change your selected categories every three months, to suit your fluctuating spending habits. This means that if you take a family road trip each spring, you can set your categories to Car Rentals and Fast Food to maximize your earnings. In the fall, when your kids get ready for school and sports to start back up, you can switch the categories to Department Stores and Sporting Goods Stores.

With the U.S. Bank Cash+ Visa Signature® Card, you’ll also get to choose one “everyday” category each quarter, from which you’ll earn 2% cash back. This could be Gas Stations, Restaurants, or Grocery Stores, and the 2% earned is in addition to the 5% earned from the other three chosen categories which include select clothing stores, cell phones, electronic stores, car rentals, gym/fitness centers, bookstores, fast food, sporting goods stores, department stores, furniture stores, movie theaters, and just recently added – ground transportation. Even better, you’ll get that same 0.5% rewards bonus for the first year in your everyday category, as well, earning you a total of 2.5% back on these eligible purchases.

What about spending that falls outside of these four chosen quarterly categories? Well, for everything else, you’ll still be earning 1% cash back on every dollar you spend. Oh, and you guessed it: this is also bumped up, to 1.5% for the first year.

Cash back earned is unlimited, and rewards can be redeemed in a few different ways. You can get a deposit made into your U.S. Bank checking, savings, or money market account. You could also opt for either a statement credit on your Cash+ card account or even request a U.S. Bank Rewards card. For the latter, you’ll need to redeem in $5 increments with a $20 minimum.

The first time you redeem a minimum of $100 in earned rewards from the account (in a single redemption), U.S. Bank will give you a $25 Cash+ bonus.

Note: You will need to log in each quarter to select your chosen categories. If you don’t, you’ll still earn the baseline 1%, but you’ll be leaving a lot of free money on the table! Also, it’s important to note that unredeemed rewards will expire 36 months after the end of the billing period in which they were earned.

APR and Balance Transfers

If you’re trying to pay off debt, the U.S. Bank Cash+™ Visa Signature® Card can help. Right now, they’re offering an introductory 0% APR on balance transfers for 12 months, for new cardholders. This means that you can take another debt – a balance on another credit card, student or personal loan, etc. – that’s charging interest and transfer it onto your new Cash+ card. You’ll have an entire year to pay down that balance interest-free, making it faster and easier to clear the debt out. Once the 12 months have passed, balance transfer APRs go back to normal. Currently, interest rates on the Cash+ card (for purchases and balance transfers) range from 14.99% to 23.99% variable, depending on creditworthiness.

In order to take advantage of the 0% balance transfer APR, you’ll need to make your transfers within 60 days of account opening.

Another reason this card is an excellent one to consider adding to your wallet? There is no annual fee.

That’s, right – you’re able to earn unlimited cash back and snag a 12-month 0% balance transfer offer without paying a single penny in fees.

As is standard, you will pay a balance transfer fee for other debts that you switch over to your Cash+ account. This fee equates to 3% of the transferred balance or $5, whichever is greater.

The U.S. Bank Cash+ card also charges fees for things like late payments (up to $38) and foreign transactions (3%).

If you’re in the market for a new rewards-based credit card, it’s definitely worth considering the Cash+ card. You’ll earn between 1.5 – 5.5% cash back on every purchase for the first year (1-5% in subsequent years), without limit. They’ll give you a $100 bonus just for spending $500 in the first 60 days, as well as $25 the first time you redeem $100+ in rewards. You won’t pay an annual fee and you’ll have 12 months to pay down balance transfers interest-free.

All in all, the U.S. Bank Cash+™ Visa Signature® Card is a stand-out option to have in your wallet.

Do I have to be a current US Bank customer to get this card offer? It says "Great Offer for U.S. Bank Customers" on the details summary? I want this card but I don't have an existing U.S. Bank account. Thanks.

No, you don't. I have the card and didn't have a relationship with the bank prior to applying for it.
